10am Registration and welcome
10.30am – 11.45am :
Session 1 – KT & NWE joint session. The Accordion : Why? Looking at better practising / playing and performance techniques. The importance of the dance.
11.45am – 12 noon : Coffee
12 noon – 1.15pm :
Session 2 –
KT : TANGO! . . .style, performance and getting started.
NWE : French / Breton folk music . . what are the stylistic and performance differences? A whizz round the musics of Central France and Brittany.
1.15pm – 2.15pm : Lunch (BRING FOOD TO SHARE)
2.15pm – 3.30pm :
Session 3 – KT & NWE joint session.
Listening, learning by ear and ways to keep improving while having fun.
Developing your own style.
3.30pm : Tea
3.45pm – 5pm :
Session 4 – KT : Swedish folk music – what’s the stylistic differences between Scandinavian and the folk music of the UK / Ireland and how do you play them? Specifically polska, hambo, waltz and schottis.
NWE :English folk Musicians composing for French / Scandinavian Dance – looking at writing new tunes for French / Scandi dance scene in the UK as an ‘English’ musician. There is already a growing repertoire of new dance music in the UK written by English players for French / Scandi dances. How can we capture the essence of these dances and celebrate it with new tunes? We’ll look at existing new repertoire and explore the nuts and bolts of good dance tunes within these traditions.
5pm – 5.30pm :
Altogether : KT & NWE recap on the day and share what’s been going on!
